OSSINING, NY – Today, Cait Conley issued the following statement ahead of the Orangetown Planning Board’s July 8th Meeting regarding Databank Phase II:
“Tonight, the Orangetown Planning Board is considering whether to approve another data center on the shores of Lake Tappan. I urge the Planning Board to reject this proposal until the proper assessments have been conducted to understand the impacts on our communities.
“We have to ensure data center companies pay their fair share, protect residents from rate hikes, ensure grid reliability, protect water resources and our environment, and protect nearby homes from excessive noise pollution, while making sure local residents’ voices are heard and listened to.
“Families are already paying more for electricity, and they shouldn’t be left footing the bill while massive corporations profit. We need common-sense rules for where and how data centers are built so local communities aren’t stuck with higher utility costs or greater environmental risks.
“If I’m elected to Congress, I’ll work to make sure data centers are held to clear national standards that ensure families are protected from increased utility bills, protect our drinking water, strengthen our electric grid, and put local communities ahead of corporate interests.”
