Cait Conley Slams Mike Lawler’s Vote to Gut Medicaid, Raise Taxes on New York Families

OSSINING, NY – Mike Lawler’s betrayal of Lower Hudson Valley families is now complete. After talking a good game about protecting New York families, Lawler caved completely and followed orders from his party bosses in hopes of advancing his own selfish political ambitions. He voted to raise taxes on New York families by capping the SALT deduction, rip healthcare away from nearly 1 million people across the state, raise utility bills by by $300 per year, and add more than $3 trillion in debt – all to accomplish his actual goal of sending a massive tax giveaway to his billionaire backers and winning political favor with Trump.

Below is NY-17 Democratic candidate Cait Conley’s statement on Lawler selling out New Yorkers:

“Mike Lawler just sold out the Hudson Valley — again.

Instead of standing up for the people who elected him to fight for their best interests in Congress, he caved to his party bosses and handed the billionaires and corporate special interests who bankroll his campaigns exactly what they wanted.

This so-called “big beautiful bill” is a betrayal, another backroom deal that rewards the ultra-wealthy while families in our district struggle to afford groceries, rent, and basic healthcare.

I didn’t spend 16 years in uniform fighting for this country to watch career politicians like Mike Lawler sell it out.

This is my home, my community. The Hudson Valley deserves better, we deserve a leader of character who puts people before party and service above all else.”

About Cait Conley:

Cait Conley is a fourth-generation Hudson Valley native and the daughter of a postal worker and a construction worker. She is a decorated combat veteran and national security expert who has spent her life answering the call to serve. That call began on 9/11, when, as a junior in high school, she watched the Twin Towers fall. The next day, she started the process for applying to West Point — earning acceptance and becoming the first in her family to graduate college and then going on later to attend graduate programs at Harvard and MIT. Cait served 16 years as an active duty Army officer, deploying six times to take down the world’s most dangerous terrorists, and later led counterterrorism efforts on the National Security Council and at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Throughout her career, Cait has been called upon to solve the toughest problem and fix things that are broken. That’s why Cait is running for Congress — to fix a broken system and fight for a better future for New Yorkers.
