AMONG OTHER THINGS, American politics has turned into a real arms race recently. Candidates and elected officials clamor for voters’ attention—but not with speeches or manifestos on how the U.S. should handle immigration or healthcare. Instead, they’re responding to more basic questions. Namely: How much can you bench?
Fox News host Jesse Watters snarked in June that Democrats don’t lift. But X, Instagram, and TikTok tell a different story: Politicos on both sides of the aisle have flocked to social media to flex, post pullups and sweaty selfies, and to deliver stump speeches beside squat racks.
